Grab-backed, Indonesia-listed digital bank Superbank nearly tripled its net profit in the third quarter of 2026, as rapid growth in digital lending and higher interest income lifted earnings.

The bank posted net profit of 117.3 billion rupiah ($6.5 million) in the July-September quarter, up 196% from 39.6 billion rupiah a year earlier, according to its Q3 results presentation. Profit before tax rose 199% year-on-year to 150.7 billion rupiah ($8.3 million), while net interest income increased 27% to 550 billion rupiah ($30.3 million).

Superbank’s digital loan portfolio grew 265% year-on-year in the third quarter, while its digital loan customer base expanded 361% and incoming loan applications increased 353%, the presentation showed.

The bank attributed the growth to expanding lending through Grab’s ecosystem and rising demand for credit.

For the first nine months of 2026, Superbank recorded profit before tax of 385 billion rupiah ($21.2 million), up 376% year-on-year, while net profit rose nearly fivefold to 299.9 billion rupiah ($16.5 million) from 60.1 billion rupiah ($3.3 million) a year earlier.

Net interest income for the same period increased 41.9% to 1.56 trillion rupiah. Total loans grew 52.6% year-on-year to 13.8 trillion rupiah ($761 million), while customer deposits rose 79.3% to 17.6 trillion rupiah ($970.6 million). Total assets reached 27.5 trillion rupiah ($1.5 billion), up 66.3%.

“For us, growth is not simply about how many customers join us, but about the value we create through the financial services they use,” Tigor M. Siahaan, Superbank’s president director, said in a statement.

“With more than 8 million customers and pre-tax profit reaching Rp385 billion, we are increasingly confident that our ecosystem-driven strategy can accelerate business growth while strengthening profitability,” he added.

Superbank said its customer base had surpassed 8.5 million as of September, up 73%, with 1.9 million transactions per day. Its ecosystem strategy includes Pinjaman Atur Sendiri (PAS), a digital lending product that allows Grab and OVO users to access financing through their respective apps without downloading Superbank’s application.

The bank also introduced a Top-Up & Bayar feature during the third quarter, allowing customers to top up e-wallet balances, purchase mobile credit and pay bills through its app. Its presentation highlighted partnerships with other brands and 19 upcoming collaborations to encourage more frequent transactions.

Superbank has also expanded into vehicle financing for Grab drivers through its collaboration with the ride-hailing platform. The initiative includes financing for electric vehicles used in GrabCar Plus Electric, which the bank said would help drivers access vehicle ownership through affordable daily rental arrangements.

As of September, Superbank reported a capital adequacy ratio of 73.26% and a cost-to-income ratio of 54.16%. Its pre-tax return on equity reached 6.23%, compared with 2.03% in the same period last year.

Siahaan concluded that as Superbank enters the final quarter of 2026, it remains focused on deepening ecosystem integration, developing financial services that address evolving customer needs, and maintaining healthy, sustainable business growth through greater operational efficiency, strong corporate governance, and prudent risk management.
