India Digest: Sheryl Sandberg said to have backed AI startup; Ex-Venture Highway exec launches fund

Sheryl Sandberg, who earlier served as the chief operating officer of Meta (formerly known as Facebook), is understood to have made her second investment in Indian GenAI startup Simplismart. Meanwhile, Aviral Bhatnagar, who quit Venture Highway (now merged with US-based General Catalyst) in April, is said to have launched a micro venture capital (VC) fund.

Ex-Meta COO Sheryl Sandberg said to have backed AI startup

Sheryl Sandberg, who earlier served as the chief operating officer of Meta, is understood to have made her second investment in Indian GenAI startup Simplismart, stated a report by Times of India.

Sandberg is said to be participating in a $7-million funding round that is being led by Accel, the report further stated, quoting sources.

Established in 2022, Simplismart claims to enable entrepreneurs to build a scalable production-grade AI system and manage the development lifecycle without writing a single line of code.

Sandberg has earlier invested in GenAI startup Ema.

Former Venture Highway exec launches micro VC

Aviral Bhatnagar, who quit Venture Highway (merged with US-based General Catalyst) in April, is said to have launched a micro VC fund with a target corpus of Rs 100 crore fund in a bid to early-stage Indian startups, per an Economic Times report.

At Venture Highway earlier, he led enterprise software and artificial intelligence investments.

A slew of micro VC firms have hit the road to invest in early-stage enterprises with high growth potential. These include names such as gradCapital, and GrowthCap Ventures, among others.
