Vietnamese English communications platform Schola has rebranded to BrightCHAMPS Vietnam and announced that it will invest close to $10 million over two years in Vietnam.

The move comes after edtech startup BrightCHAMPS, backed by Flipkart co-founder Binny Bansal, bought Schola for $15 million in a cash-and-stock deal in 2022.

BrightChamps, which is currently valued at $650 million, was founded in 2020 by Ravi Bhushan and caters to the K-12 edtech segment.

“Under the aegis of BrightCHAMPS, BrightCHAMPS Vietnam aims to successfully run 20 offline hubs by May 2026, 10 each in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. With over 23 million K-12 students, our country’s strong emphasis on education, and the Ministry of Education and Training’s (MOET) active push to integrate more technology into classrooms, we are confident of achieving this goal,” said BrightCHAMPS’ Vietnam Country Head and co-founder of Schola, Nhu Tran Le Thanh.

Currently, Vietnam is the second largest global market for BrightCHAMPS. In addition to the English language classes that made Schola a household name in Vietnam, BrightCHAMPS also offers online, offline, and hybrid classes in entrepreneurship, AI, coding, financial literacy, robotics, and Vedic Maths for children from 6-16 years of age.

BrightCHAMPS is a global edtech company that delivers online, offline, and hybrid STEM-accredited, life skills classes in over 30 countries.

BrightCHAMPS was founded in 2020 and has raised $63 million from marquee investors like GSV Ventures, BEENEXT, Premji Invest, and 021 Capital.

Vietnam has recently witnessed a series of acquisitions in the education sector. In May, Vietnamese edtech startup VUIHOC made a strategic investment in the English language teaching chain The IELTS Workshop in a seven-digit USD transaction.

Indonesian edtech company Ruangguru acquired the Vietnamese online learning platform Mclass in May last year to expand its reach in Vietnam—a market it entered in 2019 through a platform called Kien Guru.

In 2023, Japanese education company Gakken Holdings acquired shares from existing stockholders and through third-party allotment in Vietnamese textbook publisher DTP Education Solutions.
