People Digest: Ortella Global names co-founder; Vanessa Lau to be sole HKEX COO

Ortella Global Capital has named Rajvardhan Mohite as its co-founder and head of enterprise investments while the Hong Kong Stock Exchange has named Vanessa Lau as sole COO.

Ortella Global appoints co-founder

Ortella Global Capital, recently launched by a former executive at the World Bank Group’s International Finance Corporation (IFC), on Tuesday named Rajvardhan Mohite as its co-founder and head of enterprise investments.

The announcement comes days after Sayan Ghosh, a former executive at IFC, launched Ortella , a Rs 300 crore ($35.5 million) venture capital fund to back early- to growth-stage startups.

According to Ortella, Mohite has successfully exited two of his previous ventures and has experience in scaling startups across enterprise SaaS, cybersecurity, B2B marketplaces, healthcare, supply chain, engineering services and finance sectors.

Ortella is targeting the first close of its fund in January, with the final close expected within the next six months, a source told DealStreetAsia.

Vanessa Lau to become sole HKEX COO

Hong Kong‘s bourse operator HKEX has named Vanessa Lau, the bourse’s current group chief financial officer (CFO), to become the sole chief operating officer (COO) from January 1, 2025, according to a release on November 29. 

Lau will also become chief executive of The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong Limited (SEHK) and Hong Kong Futures Exchange Limited (HKFE) in addition to her position as the group CFO, per the release. The senior management changes come as Wilfred Yiu, deputy chief executive officer, co-COO and co-head of markets, retires at the end of 2024. 

Meanwhile, Xu Liang, who previously served as managing director, and co-head of Asia-Pacific operations at Goldman Sachs Group, will join the city’s bourse as managing director, and head of operations on February 10, 2025.

In yet another senior management change, Glenda So, who currently serves as co-head of markets, will take the position of head of platform and market structure development from January 1, 2025.
