The former Asia team of global private placement agent Monument Group has launched an independent private market capital solution platform, New Peak Partners, the firm’s managing partner, Niklas Amundsson, shared in a post on his LinkedIn page on Monday.
The Hong Kong-headquartered firm said it will support managers in the region in raising capital from North America, Europe, and the Middle East and help international clients access Asia Pacific’s growing investor base.
The firm is formed from the spinout of Monument Group’s Hong Kong-based Asia team, alongside other senior industry executives. Joshua Kahn, who previously served a nine-year stint as the head of funds advisory and managing director at Asia-based merchant banking platform Ion Pacific, will lead the team as the managing partner along with Amundsson.
Catherine Mooney, who previously served as the managing director at Singapore-based asset management firm Assured Asset Management, will join New Peak as partner and chief operating officer (COO).
Albert Jun, Keith Zou and James Kwon, who were previously part of Monument Group’s Asia team, will take the positions of partner, director, and associate, respectively.
New Peak Partners said on Monday that the firm will operate across four areas: fundraising, liquidity, transaction solutions, and strategic consulting.
PEI first reported on Monument Group’s Asia-Pacific team spinning out after the placement agency closed its Hong Kong office in February. Mike Miller, managing partner at the Boston-based placement agent, explained that closing its Hong Kong office marks its strategic reposition in Asia towards Japan, which has become a key market in the PE investment ecosystem.
