India Digest: Dr Devi Shetty eyes stake in UK hospital; Nazara Tech raises funding

Dr Devi Shetty’s Narayana Hrudayalaya (rebranded as Narayana Health) is in talks to buy a controlling stake in the UK’s Spire Healthcare Group. Separately, Nazara Technologies has raised $101 million via a preferential issue.

Narayana Health in talks to buy stake in Spire Healthcare

Narayana Hrudayalaya (rebranded as Narayana Health), led by Indian cardiac surgeon Dr Devi Shetty, is in talks to buy a controlling stake in Spire Healthcare Group Plc, the UK’s largest private player by revenue in the segment, The Economic Times reported, citing sources.

Spire Healthcare, which is a listed entity, has about 40 hospitals und over 50 clinics spread across the country.

Detailed negotiations with large institutional shareholders are already going on, stated the report.

If talks fructify, Narayana Health will require funding worth about $500-600 million, and it has reportedly sounded off global banks and financial institutions on the same.

Nazara Tech raises $101m via pref issue

Nazara Technologies, a listed gaming company in India, has amassed as much as Rs 855 crore ($101 million) via a preferential issue.

Investors who pumped in capital include names such as SBI Innovative Opportunities Fund, Junomoneta Finsol, and Think India Opportunities Master Fund LP, among others.

The company is understood to be looking at an inorganic route for a while now as it carves out its expansion plans. It is reportedly eyeing entry in international markets.

According to a regulatory filing on November 27, Nazara’s board has okayed the allotment of 8,959,728 shares at an issue price of Rs 954.27 a share.
