Streaming video-on-demand (SVOD) giants such as Netflix and Disney+ Hotstar are locked in a battle for eyeballs with local players such as Surya Citra Media and Media Nusantara in Indonesia. At stake is a large but relatively untapped market – the SVOD household penetration in the world’s fourth most populous country stood at a mere 7.4% in 2021, according to Media Partners Asia.
