Startups headquartered in Greater China sealed 632 venture deals in October-December 2022, down 8.4% from a record 690 in the previous quarter. At about $14.5 billion, the aggregate fundraising value also fell 4.4% from Q3’s $15.1 billion.
For the full year, deal volume stood at 2,290, up 21% from 1,893 in 2021. The whole-year fundraising value, however, fell to $53.2 billion from $87.4 billion in the prior year — a sign that dealmaking activity increased in the 2022 but investors tended to write small cheques.
