With $87.4 billion raised from 1,893 private equity and venture capital deals in 2021, startup financing in Greater China rose 55.6% from 2020.

While regulatory crackdown took a heavy toll on sectors like edtech, gaming, and real estate, investors stayed bullish on software, semiconductor, and biotech — the three industries that witnessed the most active dealmaking in Q4 2021.

Meanwhile, stock exchanges in mainland China and Hong Kong continued to be major destinations for companies to launch IPOs in 2021. Proceeds from market listings were the highest on the HKEX, while ChiNext hosted the most number of listings in 2021.
