China Digest: JHM Biopharma, TOMI, Ecar Tech secure fresh capital

Chinese firms JHM Biopharma, TOMI TOMI Shuang Du Optoelectronics, and Ecar Tech have raised fresh funding 

SDIC Unity Capital leads JHM Biopharma’s Series B+ round 

Biotech firm JHM Biopharma has secured 200 million yuan ($28.1 million) in a Series B+ round led by SDIC Unity Capital, according to a release on Tuesday. 

SDIC Unity Capital is the fund management unit under the State Development and Investment Corporation (SDIC) that manages guidance funds and industry investment funds. 

The round also roped in local investment firms, Hongsheng Capital and Oriza Holdings, as well as Nasdaq-listed online plastic surgery services marketplace SoYoung International, per the release.

The Series B extension round, which came three months after the firm snapped 100 million yuan ($14 million) from Chinese pharmaceutical firm Tonghua Dongbao Pharma Co in May, will further accelerate the firm in the areas of pipeline R&D and commercialisation. 

Phoenix Tree Capital Partners invests in TOMI 

Chengdu TOMI Shuang Du Optoelectronics has received 300 million yuan ($42.2 million) in a funding round from Phoenix Tree Capital Partners and MetaCapital, according to a company release on Monday. 

Founded in July 2020, TOMI specialises in the production of willow glass, an ultra-thin, flexible glass that is applicable across foldable gadgets or as a cover glass for electronic devices. 

China Capital Management backs Ecar Tech

Ecar Tech, which is engaged in the manufacturing of autonomous vehicles and related drive-by-wire chassis products, has snapped up 200 million yuan ($28.1 million) in a strategic financing round, according to a company release on September 4. 

The round saw the participation of Shanghai Guohe Investment, part of the state-owned Shanghai International Group; and China Capital Management, the investment arm of brokerage firm CSC Financial, among others. 

The Shanghai-based firm will use the proceeds to expand its production capacity, as well as the construction of its smart factory, per the release.
