Dispelling the myth of a fragmented Southeast Asian market, Singapore-based venture capital firm Jungle Ventures managing director and co-founder Amit Anand says, “the reality is that the market has actually become much more homogenous at the consumer behaviour level. In less than three years, our portfolio companies have scaled from 1 city to 10-15 cities across the region. That’s not fragmentation. That’s the ease of being able to transport one product into multiple markets.”
The last time Jungle Ventures launched a Southeast Asian (SEA) fund was a $100 million vehicle in 2016. It was the second fund for the Singapore-based venture capital firm, targeting consumer technology, SME enterprise solutions and global tech disruptors. While Jungle has acknowledged success in this fund, it has kept mum about whether its due for a third one.
In an interview with DEALSTREETASIA, Amit Anand discusses the SEA investment landscape and shares why he thinks there are still more companies than capital in this region.
